'Elements of Statistics', a manuscript volume in De Morgan's own hand written for publication at the proposal of the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge (SDUK), though it was never actually published. De Morgan used it as evidence of his work and knowledge when applying for the Mathematics Chair at University College London in 1827.
A note by De Morgan opposite the first page reads:
"Elements of Statistics
Written in the Summer of 1827
This is the first attempt I ever made at writing for publication. It was commenced at the proposal of the Useful Knowledge Society in its earliest days - but was never published, nor ever completed. I sent it in with my testimonials when I was a Candidate for the Maths chair in the Univ. of London in 1827, and I think it was as useful as the testimonials.
