Dark teal card-bound notebook used as a journal. Daily entries, with some omissions, from 2 September 1942 to 19 January 1943 record life for the Graves family in Galmpton, Devon, with occasional comments on the course of the war. As well as keeping house and caring for their son, William (b 1940), Beryl was also typing and checking proofs for her husband. Pasted in the middle of the entry for 23 October is a newspaper cutting and photograph recording the arrival of Mrs Roosevelt in London; the entries conclude with the transcript of "Wm's story, April 7th 1943" and children's drawings and scribbles.
