Administrative / Biographical History

Broughton township was within the ancient ecclesiastical parish of Manchester. In 1844 the part of the township south of the River Irwell became part of Salford Borough on its incorporation in 1844 and in 1853 the remainder of the township was included in the Borough. Broughton township was within Salford poor law union.
