Procurement Correspondence: Record Companies and Music Distributors

Scope and Content

Sub-series of files containing business correspondence between Women's Revolutions Per Minute (WRPM) and suppliers (record companies and music distributors) relating to the procurement of women's music/music by women sold by these companies for distribution by WRPM. The files frequently include related business and financial records associated with procurement transactions involving WRPM, such as sales invoices and payment receipts; and/or promotional material about the artists. Correspondence files include (among others) the all-women US independent record labels Olivia Records, Wise Women Enterprises, Galaxia Women's Enterprises, and Redwood Records; US women's music distributor Ladyslipper Music; UK suppliers including Cooking Vinyl; and European suppliers, such as Borstplaat and Face the Music. The files primarily cover the procurement of music by artists from the US women's music movement, including Margie Adam, Meg Christian, Therese Edell, Ferron, Sweet Honey in the Rock, Willie Tyson, and Cris Williamson. A smaller number of files cover the procurement of music by non-US music artists, including Australian singer-songwriter Judy Small; and British artists including Frankie Armstrong, Shelia Chandra, and Proper Little Madams.
