Administrative / Biographical History
John Vaughan sold Glanrhydw, Carmarthenshire, to William Saunders, a successful attorney, in 1732. The estate remained in the hands of the Saunders family until the death without issue of William Francis David Saunders in 1910. The estate passed to his sister, Susannah Mary (b. 1847), who assumed the name Saunders on inheriting the estates. The estate then passed to Susannah's daughter, Geraldine Mabel (b. 1872), of Glanrhydw and Ty-mawr, who married Sir George Rice Pryse (1870-1948), 4th Bart of Gogerddan in 1895. Sir George assumed the additional surname and arms of Saunders in 1932. The mansion house was sold in the 1970s.
