Administrative / Biographical History
Alexander Kennedy was Professor of Mechanical Engineering from 1874 to 1889. During this time he was instrumental in establishing laboratory work as a fundamental part of the engineering course and helped to found the Engineering Laboratory in 1878. In 1883 a separate appointment was made to the chair of Civil Engineering and Kennedy limited himself to Mechanical Technology.
