Describes his treatment with caustic by Burns. Had a call from Swan yesterday who is in low spirits probably due to the misfortunes of the Stirlings. It prevented Swan from enjoying Rean’s outing “which was a principal inducement in bringing him away from his harrows and dung carts at this season.” Boyd hopes to go home as soon as Burns permits him. Has hopes of setting up a private academy. Is sorry to hear that Mackenzie must pay £150 before he can practice. The Stirlings are selling up. A grand sale is expected.
