Letter from Adam Boyd to W. Mackenzie, Principal Clerk, Royal Infirmary

Scope and Content

There is no prospect of Boyd getting to Mackenzie. George gets weaker daily.. Swan has not seen a case like it. Defends Swan -“Do you mean any part of your “medical frauds” for him?… if you do prepare for my making you recant on your bare knees - Cleghorn deserves it all, & a great deal more….You must respect him he is the very essence of honesty - & though he cuts 2 baskets of strawberries per day - with a sack full or two of gooseberries - & comes forth of a morning with a beard like a field of barley, & exhibits at night, stretched asleep on 4 chairs, a bum like the Infirmary Door - nevertheless he has a most medical brain.”
