Oral History transcript

Scope and Content

Manuscript transcript of Eric Crozier and Nancy Evans being interviewed by John M Thomson, at Vigier, France.

For the first 109 pages, Crozier is the primary respondent, and discusses his family background, his beginnings in the theatre and at the BBC, the Sadlers Wells Company, Peter Pears and Benjamin Britten, Montagu Slater, Glyndebourne, Aldeburgh Festivals, and E.M. Forster.

Evans becomes the subject of p110-135 and discusses teaching at Snape and Colchester, selecting candidates, prospects for the Britten-Pears School, her singing career including Covent Garden in 1939 under Weingartner, ENSA, CEMA, Britten's A Charm of Lullabies, Britten as accompanist, Peter Pears, critiques of other productions of Albert Herring, and performing Handel operas.

Pages 135-136 include 'insert for Tape 3 side 2' and there are two additional manuscript 'inserts'. These discuss The Little Sweep, Eric Crozier as a father figure and writing English to be sung, and favourite operas.

In addition, a typescript reproduces pages 110-134 and 'insert for Tape 3 side 2'.
