Administrative / Biographical History

The South Wales Miners' Museum, originally the Welsh Miners' Museum, was opened in 1976. The Museum was created on the initiative of ex-miners and other members of the local former mining community who created a committee of 31 members to collect and present artefacts showing every aspect of mining as a human and technical activity. The museum collected photographs and colliery records and these form the core of the present collection. There are also administrative records of the museum itself and some records of Glyncorrwg Community Council (on which one of the Museum Committee also served), listed separately.
