Correspondence from Dr, Mrs and Miss Kerr

Scope and Content

The Kerr family were old friends of Mary Hamilton's from Northampton. The correspondence in this sub-subseries relates to Hamilton's relation, Lord Cathcart, servants, the raising of a troop of yeoman by Sir William Wake (HAM/1/8/8), of Hamilton's friendship, and on a wet nurse for the Queen. Mary Anne Kerr also writes on war and on the military movement of Napoleon's troops, noting that there are 1500 cavalrymen in Britain and that she is sure that as long as the men are brave we should have nothing to fear (HAM/1/8/4/9). She notes that even the ladies of her neighbourhood are recruiting 'for the cause' (HAM/1/8/4/10).
