Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
In 1820 Mr George Brewer established the Coalbrook Vale ironworks close to Ebbw Vale, Monmouthshire. Brewer was believed to be related to the Darbys of Coalbrook Dale, hence the name Coalbrook Vale. In 1845, George Brewer died and his son, Tom Llewellyn Brewer assumed control of the works. Coalbrook Vale was purchased by Levick and Simpson in 1855.
