Correspondence and papers of Roy Lancaster relating to the bicentennial commemorative tour led by him, following the final part of the original 1804 expedition (from St Louis, Missouri, to the Pacific coast led by United States Army Captains Lewis and Clark). Includes letters, faxes, cards and copies of emails to Roy Lancaster, mainly from plant enthusiasts and tour company staff, in particular from Joan Hockaday, Bainbridge Island, Washington, and Emma Schnabel of Homewood Travel and Garden Tours, Birmingham; letter from Roy Lancaster subsequently sent as a fax; drafts and final version of the tour itinerary, 2003, including a copy of the George W. Bush Presidential Proclamation of Jul 2002 officially designating the years 2003-2006 as the ‘Lewis and Clark bicentennial’; copies of ‘The Oregonian’, May 2001, with articles on the botanical legacy of the original Lewis and Clark expeditions; copy of ‘New York Times’ article relating to planned commemorative events, Jan 2003; bicentennial brochures, hotel and trail guides, maps, some annotated, transport timetables, tourist guides to the Oregon and Washington coast, and national and state park guides

Includes letter from Emma Schnabel, Victoria Garden Tours, Birmingham, to Roy Lancaster enclosing proposals for a 2001 tour of Morocco, Apr 2000
