Administrative / Biographical History

The National Platen Printing Machine Minders' and Process Provers' Society was established in 1890 and in or before 1919 it changed its name to the Platen Printing Machine Minders' Society. In 1924 it joined the National Union of Printing, Bookbinding, Machine Ruling and Paper Workers and became the autonomous Printing Machine Branch. It retained this status under the various incarnations of SOGAT between 1966 and 1991 and then under the Graphical, Paper and Media Union before fully amalgamating with the London Region of the Graphical, Paper and Media Union in 1992. Its superannuation fund made its last payments in 2011.
