Administrative / Biographical History

Stephen P. Goodall is a researcher of the railway lines serving North Wales, and has produced books about the Prestatyn and Dyserth Branch Line, 1986 and the Vale of Clwyd Railway, 1992. He collected papers and records in the course of his research. The Vale of Clwyd Railway line commenced at Foryd Junction near Rhyl, Flintshire, and continued along the Clwyd Valley, to Denbigh, Denbighshire. It was opened in 1858. The Prestatyn and Dyserth Branch Line was originally built in 1869 by the London and North Western Railway to serve the lead mines and limestone quarries around Meliden and Dyserth, Flintshire. It began to provide a passenger service in 1905. The railway was eventually closed in 1973.
