Administrative / Biographical History

The Conway family, of Soughton Hall and Lower Soughton, Northop, Flintshire, were descended from the Conwy family of Bodrhyddan, Flintshire. John Conway of Soughton died in 1680. He was succeeded eventually by a daughter, Elizabeth, who married the Rev. Benjamin Conway, of Efenechtyd, Denbighshire, Warden of Ruthin and Vicar of Northop, Flintshire. Their only daughter married the Rev. John Potter (subsequently Conway Potter) of Badgworth (fl. 1784-1821). He later remarried, to Mary Elizabeth Lloyd of Soughton, daughter of Howel Lloyd of Hafodunos, Llangernyw, Denbighshire. His grandson was the Rev. Benjamin Conway Conway of Lower Soughton and Efenechdyd (fl. 1837-1845). The family had interest in Podimore, Somerset.
