Scope and Content

Original Programme Committee.

Responsibilities include: fire service, consumer protection (trading standards, food and drugs), buildings and public safety, civil defence and emergency planning, civil registration, charities, licensing.

Responsibility for civil registration and charities transferred to the Finance and General Purposes Subcommittee of the Policy and Resources Committee in October 1975. Registration (along with the Council's functions in relation to the police, magistrates courts, coroners and probation service) was transferred back to this Committee in March 1987.
