Scope and Content

Replaced the Social Services Establishments Inspection Panel (see CC2/12/A9)

Appointed under the National Health Service and Community Care Act 1990 which required the Council to establish an independant Social Services Inspection Unit The Unit was responsible for inspecting the Council's own residential accommodation (Part 3 establishments under the 1990 Act) as well as statutory registration and inspection of independant sector residential accommodation (registered under the Registered Homes Act 1984), boarding schools and other children's accommodation including private children's homes, non-maintained special schools, county council boarding schools and residential homes with less than 4 residents (under the Children's Act 1989).

The Committee's membership included officers, inspectors and heads of establishment and its task was to oversee the Inspection Unit and provide a forum for communication between the Inspection Unit, service providers and the County Council.

The Committee was replaced by the Social Services Inspection Advisory Panel consisting of lay assessors and service providers with advisory powers only (see CC2/12/A12).
