- Roy Jenkins correspondence concerning "The Ashton Case". The Ashton case concerns Mr James Ashton and his protest at Chichester Cathedral in October 1975 on the occasion of Roy Jenkins addressing an Oxfam-sponsored rally on "Europe and the Developing World". Hugh Cudlipp was the Chairman of the meeting. Mr Ashton spoke at the beginning of the meeting, condemning Mr Jenkins for refusing to set up a tribunal to study his-plan for greater human rights through the UN. He accused Roy Jenkins of acting illegally. This event was overshadowed by National Front hecklers taking over the meeting and eventually forcing Roy Jenkins to abandon his speech.
