The Counter-Inflation Publicity Unit was set up in July 1975 to encourage public understanding of the problem of inflation. James Callaghan, who was Prime Minister at the time, appointed Hugh Cudlipp as Head of the Unit to be his adviser on the presentation of the Government's counter-inflation policies, a position for which he received no salary.
Hugh Cudlipp was in charge of the Unit from July 1976 until it was disbanded in November 1976.
