UEA Collection: Sir Lincoln Ralphs

Scope and Content

The contents include: photocopies of correspondence, minutes and memoranda, and newscuttings relating to the establishment of the University of East Anglia, 1947, 1958-1962; papers relating to the visit by HM the Queen, 1971, and to manifestations of student unrest in that year; a copy of Ralphs' lecture at the University, 22 January 1974; and a portrait photograph of Ralphs.

The papers are as received and have not been sorted or listed.

Administrative / Biographical History

Sir Lincoln Ralphs, then Dr F. Lincoln Ralphs, was the Chief Education Officer of Norfolk at the time of the foundation of UEA and was a founder member of both the University's Promotion Committee and its Academic Planning Board.

Custodial History

The contents were copied by Dr Michael Sanderson, from originals in the possession of Lady Ralphs, while researching the history of UEA. The copies were placed in the care of the Archives Department in 1995.
