File contains letters from Helen Carte to Gilbert. They discuss the 'Carpet Incident' - a dispute over general Savoy Theatre maintenance expenses between Gilbert and D'Oyly Carte which would eventually break up the partnership. Letters as follows:

  • Copy of a letter from Helen to Gilbert, regarding the facilitation of 'a friendly settlement of matters which certainly never seems to me to be things requiring the intervention of a Court of Law', specifically mentioning electricity charges, general fees and receipts and the replacement of the carpet, 19 Sep 1890.
  • Copy of a letter from Helen to Gilbert, regarding accounts and money owed to him, 27 Sep 1890.
  • Copy of a letter from Helen to Gilbert, regarding an earlier Gilbert letter about the 'payment of an undisputed debt' and his queries over the theatre accounts, 15 Oct 1890.
