Company-related correspondence: Donations to the Company, 1957-1975

Scope and Content

Correspondence relating to items donated to the company. Where possible, an image of the donated item has been attached to the corresponding letter.

Notable items include correspondence related to the donation of:

  • Sullivan's miniature comb with leather case (catalogued as a museum object, see THM/73/34 for further details), a gold horseshoe locket (engraved M.O.P., dated 1892) and a letter to Miss Brandram (this letter may be found at THM/73/14/5/3). The locket was eventually presented to Isidore Godfrey and is not in the archive. Correspondence and notes are dated 1964-1969.
  • Leather and silver belt, presented by Gilbert to Sybil Grey (catalogued as a museum object, see THM/73/34 for further details), 1967.
  • A number of Gilbert letters. One original letter is included (27 Dec 1907), as well as several photocopied letters (1902-1906). Also included are a number of Bridget D'Oyly Carte notes regarding the acquisition, 1971.
  • Dress train and fan used by Catherine Pelling in a production of The Mikado (catalogued as museum objects, see THM/73/34 for further details), 1975.
