Scope and Content

Objects as follows:

  • Waterloo Medal presented to Corporal Richard Cart of the Royal Horse Guards, 1815.
  • Lithograph lime block and metal printing plate for early Trial by Jury programme, ca.1875.
  • Silk programme for the opening night of The Pirates of Penzance at Fifth Avenue Theatre, New York, 31st Dec, 1879.
  • Daguerrotype photograph of Robert Cart in leather-work presentation box, ca.1880s. (Further photographs of Robert Cart may be found in THM/73/9/2/3).
  • Leather belt with silver links and clasp, engraved with spider and web motif, insects and SG monogram, presented by Gilbert to Sybil Grey, ca.1880s-1890s. This item was donated to the company in 1967. Related correspondence may be found in THM/73/14/10.
  • Miniature tortoiseshell comb in leather case, once belonging to Sullivan, ca.1880s-1890s. Includes a provenance note explaining it was given to the author (R.B.C.) by Rosina Brandram in 1903 (related correspondence may be found in THM/73/14/10).
  • Silk programme for Billee Taylor at the Standard Theatre, New York, 19th Feb, 1881.
  • Silk programme for Iolanthe at the Bijou Theatre, Boston, 11th Dec, 1882.
  • Silk programme for Pygmalion & Galatea at the Royal Lyceum Theatre, 12th Feb, 1884
  • Silk programme for Iolanthe and Patience at the Sarel Hall, Guernsey, 15th & 16th Sept, 1884.
  • Silk-covered illustrated programme for the 100th performance of The Mikado at the Fifth Avenue Theatre, New York, 25th Nov, 1885.
  • Black wood and lace fan, used by Catherine Pelling when playing Katisha in The Mikado, 1885. This item was donated to the Company in 1967. Related correspondence may be found in THM/73/14/10.
  • Silk programme for Ruddigore at the Theatre Royal, Jersey, 28th Jul, 1887.
  • Silk programme for The Yeomen of the Guard at the Theatre Royal, Jersey, 20th Jul - 1st August, 1889.
  • Green embroidered silk train, from a dress worn by Catherine Pelling when playing the Duchess in Haddon Hall, ca.1890s-1920s. This item was donated to the company in 1985. Related correspondence may be found in THM/73/14/10
  • Silk programme for The Mikado at Balmoral Castle, 4th Sept, 1891.
  • Helen Carte's League of Mercy medal in presentation box, 1898.
  • Metal relics found on the Crimean battlefields by Gilbert, 1899.
  • Illustrated fan signed by Leo Sheffield, Henry Lytton, Helen Gilliland and Bertha Lewis. Given by Lytton to Francis Cave in Aug 1918.
  • Silk programme for Iolanthe at the Empire Theatre, Calcutta, 13th Dec, 1922.
  • Box of grey composite blocks, labelled 'Peter Goffin blocks for unit set steps. Scale 0.5":1ft'. Probably used for Iolanthe, ca.1961.
  • Set model pieces for Iolanthe, ca.1961.
  • Silver gilt and enamel powder compact with mirror and protective slip-case, undated. Front shows a colour scene from H.M.S.Pinafore with Sir Joseph, Josephine and the Captain. Undated, purchased in 1964 by Manders and Mitchenson.
  • Commemorative box designed by Peter Goffin containing a marzipan, 1964. Museum number: S.4210-2015. Original design artwork may be found in THM/73/29/3/5.
