Scope and Content

Correspondence to and from family members, friends, employers, and publishers. The majority of the correspondence dates from Jane Duncan's return to Scotland but there is some from her time in Jamaica (dated 1953-1958). There are carbon copies of some of Jane Duncan's own letters to family, friends, publishers and fans, but the majority of the correspondence comprises letters received by Jane Duncan.

The correspondence has been divided into two series: general correspondence and Macmillan correspondence. Each series has been divided into files containing one or more years of correspondence. Some correspondence was not in date order, but grouped by correspondent and this grouping is maintained within the files.
