Scope and Content

This is a manuscript history of the Singapore company, which was established on 1 May 1859, and during the later nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, acted as agents for the Johor government, and insurance, shipping, planting and rubber companies. The history describes the company's founders, who had been active as shippers and merchants under other names in Singapore before 1828, and traces its operations up to 1974. It is accompanied by notes, correspondence and other research material used in its compilation. The collection also includes two books, 'From early days: some longtime members of the Singapore International Chamber of Commerce' (Singapore, 1979) and 'The Selangor Club looks back' (Selangor, 1965).
