Scope and Content
Sir Charles Wood's Education Dispatch of July 1854 to Lord Dalhousie as India's Governor General, helped established the foundations of India's educational system including the establishment of a Department of Public Instruction, universities, teacher-training schools, increasing the number of colleges, high schools and vernacular elementary schools, and introducing grant-aid for private schools.
