Administrative / Biographical History

Edmund Huntsman was born in Weston in Lincolnshire and was educated at Moulton Grammar School. He served his articles with Maples and Son in Spalding and continued his legal training in Sheffield and Liverpool. He practised law in Nottingham from 1897 and for 10 years was honorary director of law at University College Nottingham. Mayor of Nottingham from 1927 and Freeman of the City in 1929, he persuaded Jesse Boot to donate the park land at Highfields and contribute towards the financing of University College Nottingham. As Mayor he was instrumental in the construction of the Council House in Old Market Square. Huntsman attempted to stand for parliament for the Liberal Party in 1918 but was unsuccessful.
