Letter

Scope and Content

From London, to Adam Clarke in Liverpool, thanking him for his valuable letter, which shall be preserved as a testimony of Clarke's regard for a friend.

Benson is not surprised that there are so many textual disagreements between the various copies of the "writings of the Evangelist and the Apostle", considering their popularity among early copyists. The differences are however largely unimportant, and do not detract from the central truths of the faith. Moreover the discrepancies in some of the texts are compensated for by the other gospels.

Benson asks that his name be added to the list of subscribers to Griesbach's edition of the New Testament.

They will speak more of the above matters when they next meet. (Very poor condition)
