Scope and Content

From London, to George Marsden at the Sheffield Conference in Yorkshire, enclosing a banker's draft for the attention of James Wood.

Thomas Allan is very concerned re the legal position of the chapels, and urges that "all the public acts of our Conferences be in the name of the hundred", so as to conform with the Connexion's legal status. He is also worried lest the Connexion's poor financial condition become public knowledge, as this would discourage the members of the Church, and would also harm the credit rating of the trustees.

Benson is grateful for Marsden's news of the Conference, and asks that it be updated every other day.

There are reports that Adam Clarke is so offended by the Connexion's treatment of him that he has withdrawn from the Church, but Benson knows nothing of the truth of the matter.
