John William Gott was a secularist and socialist. He was a member of the Freethought Socialist League in Bradford and from his residence at 61 Dorset Street in Bradford he acted as secretary of the British Secular League and The Jerusalem Star. He was devoted to the cause of disestablishing the Christian religion.
