Scope and Content

A collection comprised mainly of music - in the form of hymn-tunes, anthems, part-songs, cantatas, etc. - by David Emlyn Evans and others; biographical material relating to Welsh music and musicians; material relating to folk songs; proof sheets of Volume I of Welsh Melodies; musical exercises, extracts and notes; notebooks of Aaron Francis ('Aaron Mochnant'); correspondence; press cuttings; and miscellanea.

Administrative / Biographical History

David Emlyn Evans (1843-1913), musician, was born in Newcastle Emlyn. He won many muscial prizes at 'eisteddfodau' and amongst his abundant compositions are songs, anthems, cantatas, part-songs and hymn-tunes, as well as choral works which include the operetta 'Y Tylwyth Teg', 'Gweddi'r Cristnogion' (a cantata), and an oratorio entitled 'Y Caethgludiad'.
