- The lawyer Samuel Lloyd was a friend of the Wesleys, especially Charles, who entrusted him with the management of his financial affairs. It is possible that he was a relative of the Gwynne family. He may also be identified with Samuel Lloyd, son of Revd. Thomas Lloyd of Shrewsbury, who graduated from Jesus College, Oxford, in 1735, and was the only person of that name to attend either Oxford or Cambridge during the first half of the eighteenth century.
