Scope and Content

From John Valton in Almondbury [near Bristol] to Charles Wesley. He has informed Mrs Purnel of Charles's wish to dine with her on Thursday next and he has announced that Charles will preach there the same evening. While they were at supper he recalled that [J W] had announced last Sunday evening that Charles would preach in the [New Room] on Tuesday and Thursday next. If he cannot stay the evening, they must ask that [Thomas] Rankin be sent so that the people are not disappointed.

Valton intends to stay here today, setting it apart as a day of humiliation, when he can ask God's mercy for all his faults this last year as a preacher and a private Christian. Hopefully he will therefore carry no uncancelled sin into his next circuit.

He is amazed at the love and tolerance that he has met with from the Bristol Society.
