Also, inserted into the leaves of the catalogue are letters addressed to Edward Owen, a sheaf of rough notes and jottings on various historical and antiquarian subjects and newspaper cuttings. Amongst the correspondents are J. Glyn Davies, Sir E. Vincent Evans and Lord Howard de Walden.
Edward Owen, 1853-1943, was a journalist, barrister, antiquary and historian. He was born in Menai Bridge, Anglesey and educated at a private school in Dublin. As the first Welshman to be accepted into the civil service via examination, he started work at the India Office in London, where he stayed until his retirement in 1913.
He is the author of A catalogue of the manuscripts relating to Wales in the British Museum, 1900-1908.
