Dr W. Hywel Jones Deposit

Letters from Richard Evans of Cilmaenan, Llanfaethlu to his son, Evan Thomas in Liverpool, 9 January 1832 - 16 June 1836. As well as family matters, the letters consist of some details on the medical cases dealt with by Richard Evans in Anglesey and Caernarfonshire providing Evan Thomas with some advice with regards to similar matters in Liverpool.

Thomas, Turtle Dove, Llannon, Cardiganshire, 1865; eulogies on the death of Mrs Susanah Williams, Tyddyn Hwrdd, Aberffraw, 1858 and Miss Eleanor E. Owen, Shop, Pencarnisiog, 1867.

No biographical information was available regarding the creator of this collection, Dr W. Hywel Jones of Cemaes Bay, Anglesey. More is to be found regarding the family of bone-setters from Anglesey.

Richard Evans, 1771-1851, was the second person in his family to become a bone doctor, following in the footsteps of his father, Evan Thomas, 1735-1814. His son, Evan Thomas, 1804-1884, became even more famous as a bone-setter. He moved to Liverpool in around 1832 and developed a vast practice at 72 Great Crosshall Street. His son, Hugh Owen Thomas, 1834-1891, became a pioneer in orthopaedic surgery.
