LETTERS: Mercantile Marine Department, Board of Trade, 3, Sanctuary Buildings, Great Smith Street, London, S.W.1. to Mrs E. Hughes, 99, Bedford Road, Bootle, Liverpool re. her application on behalf of her son for compensation under the War Risks Compensation Scheme.
1924 Mar. 27 Requesting details from Dr Turner re. her sons treatment.
1924 Jun. 18 Her son was not on the S. S. Manistee when it was torpedoed. If it is claimed his disability is due to the sinking of H. M. S. Champagne she should communicate with the Accountant General of the Navy Admiralty.
1924 Jul. 31 As your son joined the Mercantile Marine Reserve immediately after the torpedoing of the S. S. Manistee and there is no evidence of a breakdown in health until December 1919 they are unable to regard his present condition as attributable to that incident.
