Administrative / Biographical History

Codnor Park and Ironville Equitable Industrial and Co-operative Society was registered as a society in 1865. In June 1865 a shop was opened at Ironville, in 1893 a shop was opened at Brinsley and in 1899 a further one was opened at Jacksdale. In 1902 the society started a joint bakery with Selston Co-operative Society which became known as Jacksdale Co-operative Baking Society. In 1918 the society purchased a farm. The society continued to flourish and by 1957 had a membership of 2791. In 1961 the society merged to become part of Ripley Provident, Industrial and Co-operative Society.
