Administrative / Biographical History

The Rt. Revd. Peter H.H. Howes (fl [1903]-1997) studied for the Anglican ministryat Kelham Theological College in 1929 and became a missionary with the Societyfor the Propagation of the Gospel. From 1937 he served in Sarawak, working withthe Bidayuh (Land Dayaks). From 1957 to 1960 he was seconded to the ColonialGovernment to become Officer-in-Charge of the Padawan Community DevelopmentScheme operating among the Land Dayaks of the Upper Sarawak River on theborder with West Kalimantan. In 1976 he was appointed Assistant Bishop ofKuching before retiring in 1981. His published works include Shun nyamba nang. A collection of Land Dayak stories(London, Macmillan and Co., 1952) and In a fairground (London, Excalibur, c1994).
