Administrative / Biographical History

Administrative History The firm came into existence in 1887, as Dixon Corbitt of the Teams Ropeworks, Gateshead, through an amalgamation of R.S. Newall and Co. and Dixon and Corbitt. Both firms had been established in 1840. Dixon Corbitt was acquired by R. Hood Haggie and Co. Ltd. (see DY/BRI/20) in 1946 and became part of British Ropes along with its parent company in 1959.
