Scope and Content

The records mainly consist of letters relating to the establishment of the Groups, minutes of meetings and newsletters. The records comprise:

RCPSYCH/J3 - Records of History in Psychiatry Special Interest Group, 1987-2003.

RCPSYCH/J4 - Records of Management in Psychiatry Special Interest Group, 1991-1993.

RCPSYCH/J5 - Records of the Perinatal Special Interest Group, 2002 - 2003.

RCPSYCH/J6 - Records of the Private Practice in Psychiatry Special Interest Group, 1992-1994.

RCPSYCH/J7 - Records of the Psychopharmacology Special Interst Group, 1996-1997.

RCPSYCH/J8 - Records of the Transcultural Psychiatry Special Interest Group, 1990-1998.

RCPSYCH/J9 - Records of the Women in Psychiatry Special Interst Group, 1994-2007.

RCPSYCH/J10 - Records of the Audio-Visual Group, 1988-1990.

Administrative / Biographical History

Special Interest Groups have been organised in the College since the late 1970s to facilitate the exchange of information, promote discussion and to generate interest in a particular field of psychiatry. The following are the Special Interest Groups of the College: History of Psychiatry, Computers in Psychiatry, Gay and Lesbian, Management in Psychiatry, Perinatal, Philosophy in Psychiatry, Spirituality, Transcultural, Women in Psychiatry, Adolescent Forensic, Eating Disorders, Private Practice, Audio Visual, and Neuropsychiatry. Some of these Groups are still in existence whilst the others became inactive and were subsequently dissolved by Council.

Access Information

The records are subject to the College`s 30 year closure rule. Access to the records is by appointment with the Archivist on telephone: 0207 235 2351 ext 6169, e-mail: archives@rcpsych.ac.uk. The College Archives is open Monday to Friday from 09.00 hrs to 16.30 hrs. The Archives is not open during weekends and bank holidays.
