Scope and Content

Materials relating to Maw's Hindu pilgrimages to the source of the Ganges, comprising a typescript account of his experiences on the pilgrimage in 1923, 1930, 1934 and 1948 and accompanying photograph album; incomplete notes and typescript materials for a book on the Narbada and the pilgrimage associated with it; manuscript of a journey at Maheshwar and Onkarjii and accompanying photograph albums, 1944; diary of a visit to Onkarjii, 1948; other photographs largely relating to India; miscellaneous papers relating to pilgrimages and Hinduism.

An autobiography of Geoffrey Maw was published posthumously under the title Pilgrims in Hindu Holy Land: sacred shrines of the Indian Himalayas edited by Gillian M. (Maw) Conacher and Marjorie Sykes York: Sessions Book Trust, circa 1997.

Custodial History

Following the merger of the Selly Oak Colleges and the University of Birmingham in 1999 the custodial ownership of collections belonging to the Selly Oak Colleges and held at the Orchard Learning and Resource Centre (OLRC) was transferred to the University. These collections now form part of the University's Special Collections Department and are available for consultation at the Main Library on the University's Edgbaston Campus.
