Voyage from Portsmouth to Lisbon, description of the city where he stayed 2 months, march to Villa Franca, description of Thomar, difficulties of the cavalry in foraging, hardship on the peasantry resulting and system of repayment, advance to Wellington's H.Q. at Frenada, inspection by the latter, death of his best horse, 'Emperor', advance towards enemy lines, engagement on the road to Toro, and annihilation of the 16th Dragoons.
