Administrative / Biographical History

William (Bill) Harman joined the Argus Press Ltd, printers of the Observer, as a messenger in 1928 aged 14. He was trained as a compositor and became an overseer on The Observer composing floor. Harman served as a driver during the second world war and returned to work thereafter. He left the Observer in 1980.
