Scope and Content

Correspondence with English dramatist and poet, Francis Warner, four of whose plays were published in the 1970s by Carcanet Press in association with Oxford Theatre Texts. The earlier correspondence relates to the two volumes published in 1972, Maquettes and Lying figures, including the distribution of the plays, publicity, their poor sales, and Warner's provision of assistance to help fund their publication (see /1-16, /21 and /29-30). There is some correspondence relating to a third play, Meeting ends, published in the same way in 1974; this was the second in Warner's Requiem trilogy. Includes references to: its opening at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August 1973; money provided by Warner to finance book's production; the publication process; and plans for play's opening in London on 23 April 1974 (see /8-9, /13-14 and /16-29). There are also some references to plans for the publication of a fourth play entitled Killing time, which was delayed [and eventually published in 1976] (see /26 and /28).
