Correspondence with English poet and translator Sally Purcell. Most of this relates to her Dante volume [Literature in the vernacular: Dante, translated with an introduction by Purcell (Carcanet, 1981)], including references to: the contract and advance; problems arising from the inclusion of in-copyright material; Schmidt's suggestion that she cut some of the translations by other writers like Pound which attract copyright fees; and Schmidt's further suggestion that the Italian and Provencal texts are cut due to problems of length and typesetting. Other topics include: her hope of editing a selection of [George] Gascoigne for the Fyfield series, a project which Schmidt informs her has already been given to Robert Wells; and her plans for an anthology of foreign visitors to Tudor England, with suggestions of which texts she might include.
