Correspondence with American poet Robert B. Shaw relating to: Shaw's academic work at Yale University; a fellowship received in 1979 and a promotion to Associate Professor in 1980; a visit to Cambridge, England during 1980 to work on a book about Edwin Muir, and plans to visit the Orkneys; his thoughts about the approach to this book; meetings with Glen Cavaliero and Clive Wilmer whilst in Cambridge; news of various American literary figures and acquaintances, including James [Atlas], Rachel Hadas and Tom Stewart; a forthcoming reading in New York by Geoffrey Hill, and the American reception of his book Tenebrae; royalty payments for and Shaw's interest in seeing reviews of his Carcanet collection Comforting the w[ilderness (1978)]; his thoughts on the work of Joan Brewster, who may be submitting a manuscript to Carcanet; the acceptance of some of Shaw's poems for PN Review; and Shaw's thoughts on Schmidt's novel [The colonist].
