Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
Glen & Ross Ltd was established in 1856 in Greenhead, Glasgow, Scotland, as machine hammer manufacturers. The company later moved to the Eglinton Works, Tradeston, Glasgow, where they produced hammers of up to 12 tons falling weight including steam, compound air and in later years pneumatic power hammers. The company changed its name to R G Ross & Sons Ltd before being acquired by A & W Smith & Co Ltd , sugar machinery manufacturers, Glasgow, in the early 1930s . The company continued to trade until at least the mid-1960s .
