CASE NOTES (CASE BOOKS)

Scope and Content

Case notes were, in the earlier years of the hospital, subsequently bound up into books; they are arranged under the date of discharge, transfer or death of patients. Only a few of the case books have survived, and these are listed below. There are an estimated 5 missing volumes between NAB 6/3/1/1 and NAB 6/3/1/2 and possibly another missing one after NAB 6/3/1/2. There may be about 7 volumes missing before NAB 6/3/2/1. The surviving books were discovered in a cupboard at Clifton Hospital in the early 1990s. It is not dear when Naburn case notes began to be kept in case folders rather than in books but it may have been during the 1960s. When Naburn Hospital closed in 1988, the case notes in folders, were filed into, or kept with, Bootham Park's case note system.
