UPPER HEYFORD CAMPAIGN

Scope and Content

Material related to Upper Heyford (kept together due to being in one folder when accessioned). In May 1982 a peace camp was established at RAF Upper Heyford to protest against the presence of US nuclear-bomb-carrying F-111s and the base's role in the event of a nuclear war. The protest continued the following year and the 1983 demonstration saw 4000 campaigners shut down the base for four days resulting in 752 activists being arrested in one of the largest ever set-piece civil disobedience demonstrations.
